Ingredient Volume-to-Weight Converter

Estimate how much a cup or spoon of a common ingredient weighs. Each ingredient has its own factor—there is no universal cups-to-grams conversion.

Estimate used: 150 g per 250 mL Australian cup. Scooping, packing, brands and ingredient preparation can change the real weight.

Assumptions

  • Australian measures are used: one cup is 250 mL, one tablespoon is 20 mL and one teaspoon is 5 mL.
  • Starting weights come from the Australian Government National Healthy School Canteens weights and measures table. Results between listed quantities are density-based estimates.
  • Flour is assumed spooned rather than compressed; brown sugar is packed. A kitchen scale and the recipe author's stated weight remain more reliable.
